To Change Or Not To Change

If someone ever tells you a single golden rule when it comes to business cards that you should always follow, do not listen to them.

It might seem as if there are a lot of things that are obviously going to be true. It might seem as if common sense would dictate you do one thing or another with your business card, but this is never going to be absolutely certain, and a few years might turn everything you believed upside down.

There was a point where a business card was a piece of paper with your name and contact information on it and nothing else. There were not a lot of full color business cards or cards made from metal or wood anywhere. If someone mentioned using business card printing in a way like that you would probably scoff. That is just not how things were done.

These days you have a lot more variety, but once again people try to set rules for what you should always do, and anytime a person does that they are setting themselves up to be wrong.

I have spoken to someone before who said you should change your business card every six months. No way should you go longer than that before you vary things a little. You do not have to do a lot of major changes, but just alter it a little. If you do not, people will surely grow bored with your card. This was presented as an absolute truth to follow.

In some industries this might very well be the case. There are plenty of companies who are constantly getting new business card printing done to alter their image on a regular basis, but this is not always true. For some companies you quite literally want your card to remain the same. Why: because it represents a solid company who is not going to change on their customers.

That company might create its image from the fact that they do not change very often. You can have a lot of stability if you stick with them, and sometimes that is what you want. Constant changes might makes a company look flaky, and drive away customers.

Knowing all of this what can you possibly do to make sure you get things right? The best thing to do is keep your eyes open at all times. Always be looking around for what others are doing, and always know what your customers are looking for.

Your customers are who matter the most, after all, and they are the ones you want to make happy. No one else matter if your customers are not pleased with you. If you have taken the time to figure out what they like in a company, you will be in a better position to ensure you get the right kind of business cards made to appeal to the people you need to.
