Know Your Card's Limits
Business card printing is a very versatile form of marketing that gives you the potential to accomplish a lot of things at once. Not only do business cards give out contact information, but they can also help to get you remembered, they can add to your personality by being particularly unique, and they can market various sales and other things your company is promoting. Few forms of marketing can do all of that while still being small enough to put in your pocket.
However, can they really do all of these things at the exact same time? This is where things get complicated, and where you might be overreaching when you make your custom business cards, and end up with something that might be more likely to backfire than to get you a sale.
Because of the small size of a business card you can only fit so many things into it at the same time. A business card can easily do all of the things I listed above and more, but only if you know what you want your card to do, and you pick only the most important things to do with your card.
For example, if your card is going to be focusing on promoting an event or upcoming sale you just cannot devote the same amount of time and attention to yourself on the card. It will not be as good at getting you remembered, because the point of the card instead is to promote your sales.
What happens though is that a person decides they want their card to promote a sale, promote themselves, and be a really cool looking custom business card at the same time. They start to put so many different elements into the same card that it becomes packed in and hard to follow. The card looks like a jumble of ideas all thrown together and lacks a clear focus.
Now the card is not likely to do any of the things it was supposed to. Your custom business cards will help you get remembered, but not for a reason you were hoping for.
Pick a few core things you want to have on your card and be sure that this is going to be all you use. The same goes for the images and other unique design you pick. You can have custom fonts or unique pictures, but if you start to also add in a colorful background and a description of yourself your card is going to look messy rather than interesting.
Do not let your quest to create a unique card end up sinking your chances of getting a sale because you went too far. Find out just how much you can do to your card before you start to go overboard.
